About Us

The National Council of Women NSW shares concerns and advocacy of member organisations and individual members as they collectively work to improve the status of women and their families in NSW.

Advocating to raise the profile of women in their choice of roles, activities and equity throughout their life choices.

Creating bursaries to support female students and encourage leadership and learning and advocating for greater financial literacy.

We are  voice for all women as they make their journey through life in New South Wales.

Founded at Sydney Town Hall on the 26th August 1986

Originally eleven organisations were represented at a meeting at the Sydney Town Hall on 26 August 1896. They included the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union; Sydney University Women’s Association; Infants Home; Womanhood Suffrage League of NSW; Education for Deaf, Dumb and Blind; Working and Factory Girls’ Club; Ministering Children’s Fresh Air League; Women’s Hospital and Dispensary; Queen’s Jubilee Fund; Women’s Silk Growing Co-operative and Industrial Association; German Women’s Benevolent Society; and the Women’s Literary Society.

The establishment of Women’s College at Sydney University and the Women’s Club are two examples of the innovative foresight of these women. There were a number of women present who were experiencing what we now call ‘lived experienced’, keen to ensure their rights and the rights of their children were progressed.

Our Vision
