About Us

The National Council of Women of New South Wales
NCWNSW represent a range of women’s organisations and is a State constituent Council of the National Council of Women Australia and the International Council of Women.
As a member organisation, we advocate for and influence decisions within political, economic and social institutions. Every day our volunteers work to make a positive impact and change.
We also offer bursaries to support female students, encouraging leadership and learning, and advocating for greater financial literacy.
We are the voice for all women as they journey through life in New South Wales.

Founded at Sydney Town Hall on the 26th August 1896.
Originally eleven organisations were represented at a meeting at the Sydney Town Hall on 26 August 1896.
They included the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union; Sydney University Women’s Association; Infants Home; Womanhood Suffrage League of NSW; Education for Deaf, Dumb and Blind; Working and Factory Girls’ Club; Ministering Children’s Fresh Air League; Women’s Hospital and Dispensary; Queen’s Jubilee Fund; Women’s Silk Growing Co-operative and Industrial Association; German Women’s Benevolent Society; and the Women’s Literary Society.
The establishment of the Women’s College at Sydney University and the Women’s Club are two examples of the innovative foresight of these women. Several women present were experiencing what we now call ‘lived experienced’, keen to ensure their rights and their children’s rights were progressing.
